The personal commitments I live by (and why you should define yours)

I have a very clear vision of the life I want to live.

I know that I want to:

✅ work on something that is meaningful to me
✅ work with people I enjoy working with
✅ help other people
✅ have complete freedom over my time
✅ make money to support my family and live a fun life

Overall I want to live a fulfilling and productive life so that when I’m 90 I look back and feel I made the most of my personal potential (and not have regrets for things I didn’t do).

To help me stay on track and always remember my values and goals I have defined a set of personal commitments that I try to live by.

I thought I would share these commitments with you publicly in the hope it inspires some of you to think about your own personal commitments and define these.

Here’s what they are:

EXCELLENCE:

Always try my best at the thing I’m doing right now - I never know where it might be leading me.

INSPIRE:

Try to inspire one person each day to make a change in their lives. The future is full of potential!

LEADERSHIP:

Lead by example and provide leadership through the actions I take each day.

ACTION:

Taking action always leads to success - I will either make progress or I will learn something. It also has a snowball effect (it's compounding) and it always builds confidence.

GOOD HEALTH IS GOOD FOR BUSINESS:

Being in the best possible physical shape I can be gives me the energy I need to grow and scale my business.

GRATITUDE:

I am in control of how I deal with the things that life throws at me.

LIFELONG LEARNING:

Learning new things is fun and will open up doors I don't even know exist yet. I will try and learn one new thing each day.

GENEROSITY:

Being generous in sharing what I know is rewarding for me and helpful for others.

FREEDOM:

I want to build a life I have designed, doing exactly what I want each day.

PRODUCTIVITY:

The more efficiently I can get things done the more time I have left over to spend in the way I want to spend it.

YOU ARE THE COMPANY YOU KEEP:

I am the average of the 5 people I spend the most time with. Regularly audit these people.

YOU CAN HAVE IT ALL:

I can have it all and it is possible to be a good mother, wife and business owner.

BUSINESS IS ABOUT MY CLIENTS:

Good business is about the delivery of exceptional client experiences. If I think more about my clients than the money I’m making then the business will succeed.

These commitments act as a guide and give me a sense of direction and purpose. They help me stay focused on what’s important to me each day and remind me that I am fully responsible for the actions I take and the life I get to live.

These commitments help install a sense of personal accountability and responsibility. They motivate me to try and live up to my potential.

They also help me make decisions - they are like a personal framework that help make sure decisions I make are aligned with my long term objectives and personal values.

I hope by sharing this I have given you a few ideas for setting your own personal commitments.

Thanks for reading and catch you in my next post :)
